I've started implementing an initial version of the Game DB. I Will be posting some documentation soon for those interested. The functionality will allow news, reviews, prices, and links to be attached to games.
We now have nearly every known Wii title in the database. Around 600 titles. The titles are skeletons. i.e. they need fleshing out with details. Anyone who would like to become a DB maintainer can contact me if they're a registered user. Alternatively if you are a guest who does not wish to register you may contact me through the site wide from here
Wii View Game DB is built with
MySQL and PHP powering the Drupal 5 Content Management System
CCK and Views Modules define Game DB data structure and queries
Some site features implemented so far
You can now:
- Add reviews to the site
- Link / relate reviews to a game page
- Upload and manage files via a nice web interface - WebFM module (core staff / content editors only)
- FAQ / FAQ Ask - Two modules for maintaining a FAQ / KB
- Views query building kit - Essential kit for building the DB
- External Links - Automatically opens all external links in a new windows (uses target blank not JS)
- CCK table / content building kit - Again what the Wii View DB is built on
- Captcha - Module for protecting forms from spamming by challenging the human to respond to a math or reading question
Some site development / infrastructure features implemented so far
Some features coming soon
Flags Module - User recommendations / bookmarks
User Catalogue - Maintain a game catalogue online.
User wants - What games are you likely to buy
User is playing - Tell us what you're currently playing
My bookmarks - For bookmarking other pages e.g. a news story
The idea behind these tools is to eventually provide a system for recommending games to each other and measure trends to see what games are hot or could be hot, so focus on games can be adjusted.
Fivestar Module - For rating / weight content
This rating system can be applied to any content type meaning any content on the site can be user rated. Games, reviews, prices / bargains ...anything!
Features in development
Continuing the theme of relating / attaching content to nodes and building it around game nodes I'm looking at a gallery solution to handle the image side of things. A gallery is high up the list of features to push through.
