EA takes Wii Fit West?

Peter Moore interview with Gamespot about a new fitness game from EA. Expect to see a lot popping up in the fitness genre. The game is said to have a more westernised approach to the genre which focuses on weight loss / gain as opposed to balance and stretching that is offered by Nintendo's Wii Fit.

"the game won't require the Wii Balance board at all, but will instead rely on a neoprene peripheral that will strap the Wii Remote or Nunchuk to a player's leg. The game will also come with a rubber resistance band for strength training"

"EA Sports Active will feature more than 20 sports as well as a range of fitness tools, including a calorie counter, virtual personal trainer, 30-day weight-loss program, and customizable workouts"

Name: EA Sports Active
Genre: Fitness { Aerobics, nutrition, resistance }
Date: Spring 2009
Price: $59.99

Would imagine that should make them a few coins. Personally I'd look to buy Wii Fit first so I could play other games with the balance board. Though I'm definitely no fitness fanatic! So I'm not fussed about either really :)
