There are many things that could possibly happen when you die. Unfortunately for Sakuraba Neku, he found out exactly what happens when you die. You are sent into parallel dimension to play a game. Your reward for surviving is a second chance at life.

The gameplay is simple if you look at the basics, beat a mission, go to the next day. This simple concept became difficult when adding puzzles and story based battles into the mix. Even after beating the game, you can go through again to complete specific goals to get reports that give more background into the story if you like to complete games 100%. Not only that, but there are over 300 different pins to collect and evolve. This game has a realistic city feel because you can eat food, and there are fads in clothes you wear, and pins you use.

The battle system in this game is unique. On the top screen, you input button combos for your partner to attack, while at the came time, you control Neku using the touch screen and activate your pins to attack. Inbetween battles, you can travel through the Shibuya UnderGround, and read peoples minds, or continue with your mission. To get in another battle, scan the area, and you can either face a single battle, or link a few together(up to 16) to make the battles harder, but increase the amount of items you get. You can also increase item drops by either increasing the difficulty, or weakening yourself.

Boss Battles in this game vary in difficulty, They start out easy, and get progressively more difficult.Most bosses were either sent out by reapers, or they are reapers themselves. Bosses are either big enough to fit on both screens, or they have a clone on the other screen.

There is one minigame in TWEWY called tin pin slammer. It is a variation on marbles. The basic idea is to knock your opponents pin out of the arena. Up to four people can participate in this game at once. You can also gain experience for your pins by shutting your DS,and walking past a DS using wireless mode.

Overall, this game is a must have because of its complex story, new battle system, multiplayer, and lots of sidequests to do once you finih your game.
